”once you go over to trail running you will never go back to asphalt again”
I don’t know who said it first, but I heard it many times and from many different people. It made me curious and scared at the same time. Why would I not want to go back to something that I was happy with? It took me years to understand that this citation was not a threat, but proof that it is more fun on the other side. On the trail side. One CAN actually go back to the asphalt, there’s no law or invisible force stopping it, but one usually doesn’t want to do that.
It took me years to try trail running, but it did not take long until I got hooked on it. I was a happy runner on asphalt, but I am a thousand times happier on a trail. I replaced city noises with the chirping of the birds, the buildings with trees, and the flat boring bicycle paths with small challenging trails with stones and roots. The daily worries slowly dissipate with the sound of each step and I let my inner child be free and play. Trail running brings us closer to nature and its elements, challenges us with its rolling hills, and offers us an endless range of experiences. Every run can turn into a little adventure. If you want it to.
How could it not be better?
I am originally from Portugal and a natural explorer (maybe like my ancestors), attracted to the new and the unknown. I have, however, been lost for years, uncertain about what to call home, while living and working in different countries. I finally found myself again here in this beautiful country called Sweden, which I’m now happy to call home. Trail running played an important role in it.
I enjoy running on my own and getting lost in a green forest, but just as much going on a long run with a fun group of people who takes breaks to eat Semlor. I like mountains and great views, just as much as having breakfast by the nearest lake. I enjoy the short escapes to the forest at the end of the day, as much as the ultra distances I've attempted so far. I enjoy races in places I have never been or just outside my doorstep, as much as I enjoy dreaming and creating my own adventures.
Here I will write about it all and show you that it doesn’t matter what you like, trail running has it all.
Welcome to my page on Trail Running Sweden. It’s an honor and a great pleasure to be able to blog here and be a part of this great family.
